Abstract

Cataloging as we have known it for the past thirty or forty years is at a transitional juncture. Many librarians are aware that a new cataloging code, RDA, will replace AACR2 in the future, but what does this really mean for users, for our systems, and for the services we can provide? How do linked data and the semantic web tie in to RDA and to the Library of Congress’s daring move to replace MARC with a new bibliographic framework? Lastly, how does cloud computing support these future directions in cataloging and service? These bold new directions for cataloging will impact everyone in the library community. Attend this session to hear an update on the state of these exciting transitional standards and technologies and to learn about the implications for the future of library bibliographic data.
